Mineral Species: Almandine Garnet. Location of origin: 26th Street at Sixth Avenue Subway Excavation, Manhattan Island, New York City, New York County, New York. Description: Lustrous translucent wine-red almandine garnet crystal on fine-grained biotite schist. The almandine garnet crystal is trapezohedral form and is flattened on one axis resulting in an oblong shape. Ex. Ken Hogan collection. Collected ca 1935. Overall size: 4x2x1.5 cm. Size of individual crystals: 24 mm |
