Detailed information on mineral specimen No. 44577:

Minerals Species: Barite.
Location of mineral deposit: Cheshire Barite Mine, Jinny Hill Road, Cheshire, New Haven County, Connecticut.
Description: Transparent colorless bladed barite crystal with truncated corner faces and beveled edge faces. Internally the barite crystal has a slightly darker phantom zone caused by inclusions of sulfide microcrystals. The barite crystal has excellent luster. All surfaces and edges are clean and undamaged, but one corner has a natural contact from another intersecting crystal (no longer present). Mine closed in 1871; ex. Miller collection ca. 1900.
Overall size of mineral specimen: 7x7x1 cm.
Size of individual crystals: 70 mm.
Price: $300 (plus shipping).
