Minerals Species: Pyrite pseudomorph after Ammonite (Pyritized Ammonite).
Location of mineral deposit: near Moscow, Central Federal District, Russia.
Description: A fossilized ammonite that has been replaced molecule-by-molecule by metallic pyrite with iridescent luster on the outer surfaces. The fossil was sliced through the middle to expose the internal chambers, now lined with metallic pyrite crystals. Ex. Bob Holzer (1934-2009) collection.
Overall size of mineral specimen: 42x33x6 mm.
Size of individual crystals: micro.
Price: $75 (plus shipping).
