Detailed information on mineral specimen No. 46316:

Minerals Species: Magnetite.
Location of mineral deposit: Juragua Iron Co. Mines, Firmeza District, 14.5 km east of Santiago de Cuba, Oriente Province, Cuba.
Description: Lustrous black octahedral magnetite crystals in planar aggregates of sub-parallel crystals. A rare mineral specimen from Cuba from the old mining district that opened in 1884. See: Bulletin of American Institute of Mining Engineers, October 1916. The crystals grew in a constricted vein preventing complete crystal development. Most visible crystals are complete and undamaged. Ex. Willard Lawson Cumings (1874-1945) VP of Mining, Bethlehem Steel.
Overall size of mineral specimen: 10x9x3 cm.
Size of individual crystals: 2-5 mm.
