Description of Mineral Specimen for sale No. 77875:

Mineral Species: Almandine Garnet in schist.
Location of origin: Pipeline excavation, south of Diamond Lake, Glastonbury, Hartford County, Connecticut.
Description: Plate of silvery schist with several lustrous transparent red-black almandine garnets exposed on the surfaces. The almandine garnet crystals are a combination of dodecahedral and trapezohedral forms and are flawed internally. The specimen was extracted from solid rock, not from a cavity, resulting in minor surface imperfections where the surrounding matrix was removed. Collected in October 1995.
Overall size: 4.5x4x1.5 cm.
Size of individual crystals: 1-9 mm
Price: $20 (plus shipping).
