This is one of the rare (only about 10 are known to exist) copies where Plate no. 1 illustrating colored gemstones was pasted over with a color photograph.
It is believed these presentation copies were reserved for mineral collectors of high stature, as evidenced by Houston's famous career as 11th President of Texas A&M University (1902-1905), 4th President of the University of Texas, Austin (1905-1908), USA Secretary of Agriculture (1913-1920), USA Secretary of the Treasury (1920-1921), and vice president of AT&T.
