Mineral Species: Malachite pseudomorphs after Azurite. Location of origin: 1st Oxide Zone, Upper Level, Tsumeb Mine, Otavi-Bergland District, Oshikoto, Namibia. Description: Well-defined green malachite pseudomorphs after blocky, rectangular azurite crystals to 25 mm. The azurite crystals formed first, then altered molecule by molecule to malachite, while maintaining the original azurite shape. Pseudomorph = false form. The specimen formed in a cavity with many crystals intersecting in all directions. Most crystals are complete except in areas where they intersected adjacent crystals in the cavity. Ex. Georg Gebhard (author of Tsumeb I and Tsumeb II, the definitive reference books on the Tsumeb Mine). Overall size: 4.5x3.5x2 cm.
