Mineral Species: Barite. Location of origin: Elk Creek, Meade County, South Dakota. Description: Cluster of intersecting lustrous transparent golden-brown barite crystals on a thin crust of yellow calcite. The barite crystals are tapered prisms with chisel-shaped terminations and fluoresce yellow under SW UV illumination. The specimen formed in a cavity with many crystals intersecting in all directions. Most crystals are complete except in areas where they intersected adjacent crystals in the cavity. Ex.
