Locality: | Biedell Creek Quartz Prospects, Crystal Hill, 12.5 km northwest of La Garita, Saguache County, Colorado |
Description: | Elongated scalenohedral calcite crystals up to 15 mm overgrown with rounded white aragonite finger-shaped formations up to 10 mm long. The aragonite fluoresce green and the calcite fluoresces blue-white under UV illumination (2 Color Fluorescent!). This quartz outcrop was completely excavated by open pit mining ca. 1983 |
