Description: | Rounded and deformed crystals of native gold in limonite-coated quartz matrix. Collected while on a UVA geology field trip in 1950 to the now abandoned mines centered around the town of Mineral, VA. The Arminius Mine closed in 1921. A rare find. Ex. John A. Rorer, Jr. collection #008; Collected by Jack Rorer in May, 1950 |
