Description: | Lustrous brown dodecahedral grossular garnet half-crystals that alter into massive grossular matrix on the bottom. The light color is due to a sub-surface calcite layer included within the grossular garnet. Ex. Henry D. Miller (1838-1919 or 1920) collection, (see Final Disposition Of Some American Collections Of Minerals, Frederick A. Canfield, 1923), bequeathed to the Wadsworth Atheneum in 1909; ex. Loomis-Chaffee School |
