Locality: | headwaters of the Orange River, Griqualand West, South Africa |
Description: | Large vein of tiger-eye with bands of golden color. Tiger-eye is caused by quartz pseudomorphs after fibrous crocidolite crystals. The tiger-eye is wavy and has a chatoyant reflection. Could be cut into many large cabochons or other lapidary uses. Ex. James Underhill collection #90; ex. A.E. Foote (1846-1895) |
