Description: | Large complex crystal of translucent wine-red spessartine-almandine garnet frozen in quartz matrix. The largest spessartine-almandine garnet crystal was fractured in situ and the cracks in-filled with quartz caused by post-crystallization deformation. Ex. Westtown School (founded 1779 in West Chester, Pa.) Collection no. 7169, donated by Lewis Palmer (1837-1872). |
