Locality:Catalan Agate-Amethyst District, Southern Paraná Basalt Basin, Artigas, Uruguay
Description:Large elongated quartz geode lined with transparent colorless quartz crystals to 20 mm long with overgrowth of unusual pink quartz crystals to 1 mm, commonly sold as Red Amethyst. The pink color appears to be caused by a thin layer of hematite.
