Description: | Large scalenohedral calcite crystals with translucent gray outer zones and red-brown phantom zones inside. The phantom zones formed when early calcite crystals were coated with hematite-goethite, then the calcite continued to grow. Ex. Thomas A. Penney (1934-2019) collection #171 |
