Description:Large curved foliated mass of gray-metallic graphite crystals from the historic mines first discovered by the Nipmuc, then operated commercially starting in 1644 by John Winthrop the Younger (1606-1676). Ex. W. B. Thompson collection; ex. Dr. Joseph Springall (1811-1895) of Dexter, Maine
