Description: | Classic formation of martite, the obsolete mineral name identified in 1982 as hematite pseudomorphs of octahedral magnetite crystals. The magnetite crystallized first, then altered molecule-by-molecule to hematite, maintaining the magnetite shape. First mentioned in print in 1894 in article by Maynard Bixby |
