Description: | Large cluster of lustrous black andradite garnet crystals on massive andradite matrix. The black color was originally attributed to high Yttrium impurities, but no reference can be located. These are commonly labeled as the variety: Melanite Garnet. Ex. Jack Troy (1930-2016) collection #V61, originally acquired ca. 1989 |
